What is bhakti yoga?
Let us begin with a definition. The word bhakti is defined as the nature of the soul’s propensity to love and to serve. To give an analogy, the nature of sugar is that it is sweet. Without sweetness, then it is not sugar. Similarly, the soul’s nature is to love and to serve. The word yoga is defined as re-connection.
One may ask, though – if my nature is to love and to serve, why does it seem so difficult? The ancient scriptures of India tell us that we have been covered by this material world with thick masks that cover the heart. Fear, pain, hurt, anger, shame, and sadness are just some of these masks. Thus, the practice of bhakti yoga is the process of reconnecting with one’s natural propensity to love and to serve. Bhakti yoga peels away those masks and opens the heart to true connection with the self, with others, and with God.
The Bhakti Yoga Retreat experience is a unique opportunity to reconnect with the self, to enter an oasis of non-judgment, divine study, and a clean lifestyle.
